‘I lost 18 months of my life’: How to live with post-Covid syndrome

Even months after they’ve had a coronavirus infection, many people remain seriously ill. They suffer from shortness of breath, fatigue, memory or heart problems. Many of them, however, face great distrust.

“You need to be more patient!” is a sentence Martha Esperti has heard often from doctors over the past 18 months. But she no longer wants to wait. More than a year after contracting the coronavirus, Esperti still has fever, she feels faint and suffers from tachycardia, memory problems and lowered blood oxygen levels. The young woman, who until recently played sports and traveled, now gasps even when she cooks.
